So, why does a die-hard Spuffy fan write B/X?Ok, so why did I write this fic? Well, while I was writing my more usual Spuffy fic - it was either 'One for Sorrow' or 'A Unique Specimen', and posting on Fanfiction.net, I got a review from someone who basically expressed her dissatisfaction and asked why I didn't write Buffy/Xander fics. Well, when I'd recovered from that icky feeling, I started to wonder what circumstances could possibly bring them together. I saw two possibilities. The first, way back in Season 1, is that Buffy would simply choose Xander over Angel. Not too much of a stretch of the imagination there, and Xander seemed a really nice guy then. The other possiblitiy required Buffy to lose everyone around her. It needed her to be completely vulnerable, and to have largely lost her self-esteem. Naturally enough, her general state of mind when she was first brought back from the dead gave me a starting point, and then I worked at removing everyone else in her life. Spike was the first to go, because I really believe that, had their relationship been allowed to continue, (and barring characters behaving out of character) that the relationship would have grown into something really special. We saw hints of that in 'As You Were', before Riley found out about them. So, there you have it. And, don't go looking for the review that sparked the story, because it was anonymous and I obliterated it. Well, who wants to think about B/X, except to show just how much darker Season 6 would have been without Spike? |
