A few days ago I read cruel concealment over at sinister attraction, I really enjoyed that story and went searching for your website and something else to read that you have witten, I then found Gifts, and this story. By the end of the second story I was so hooked on these characters that I didn't want to stop reading, then you killed Spike, Oh my god, my heart was breaking for Buffy and by the last chapter I was actually sobbing, I had tears in my eyes and eventually had to get up and get a tissue. I loved these storys and will be reading all of your work, I have become a fan.

Chapter 32

I enjoy your stories a great deal. They've all been impeccably written, full of intriguing original characters and surprising plot twists. I've been wondering for several chapters now how you might resolve the situation so that Spike, Buffy, and Emily could return home. I think I'm beginning to see your plan now, as Buffy hesitates about abandoning Spike, alone and defenseless, in human territory. On the other hand, you may have something completely different in mind. I'm looking forward to it. One of the interesting twists in A Unique Specimen has been that you started with a story that was already AU and then moved into another setting that is, in effect, AU from that. Your human villains are very well done, by the way. They're not evil by authorial fiat. Instead, the reader can see something of how they became what they are. What you've done with Riley in "One for Sorrow" and "Two for Joy," for example, is chilling. Thanks for creating and sharing some great stories.

I liked the description of Buffy and Spike presenting a perfect symmetry. It was evocative of Blake's "fearful symmetry," which would probably be another good description for the two of them. Their willingness to consider the other's POV was another sign of the strengthening of their relationship, while Buffy's excuse of being cold on the other side of the tent was sweet. Now I'm wondering if Alasdair's situation ties in with what's happening on the other side of the portal. Moving him to the basement does put him in position to receive immediate help when Emily comes back. Or maybe it will enable him to help them. Belatedly, I wondered if he has a manifestation on the other side that I'd overlooked while concentrating on what was happening to Buffy and Spike.
